MARIA ALEJANDRA ORTIZ
Maria Ortiz is an Economics and International Business major at the University of North Florida. She currently works at Working Capital Solutions- GE Capital as an Accounts Receivable and Operations Intern. She was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia and came to the United States three years ago in pursuit of a better education. She was motivated to join the Foundation because she, “realized that the Hispanic community has a lot of unexploited potential that is limited because of financial need, but could be vital to the improvement and development of society.” She expects to graduate in December 2017 and after finishing her professional experience within GE, she will be pursuing her Master’s in Econometrics. She currently resides in Jacksonville, Florida with her two identical triplets.
ROCIO DIAZ-FERNANDEZ
Rocio Diaz-Fernandez is a graduate from the University of North Florida where she majored in Economics. During her undergraduate studies, she received various scholarships due to her outstanding academics such as Florida Bright Futures and the Milton J Wood Scholarship Program. She currently works at Deutsche Bank as an Analyst with the Program Trading Desk and aspires to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Rocio serves on the leadership board of the Vestry for her local church and hopes to inspire other young Hispanics in the community to become involved and the significance of seeking higher education.
MIGUEL A ROSADA, MD.
Miguel was born in a small town in Oriente , Cuba and moved to the United States with his parents when he was 11 years old. Following high school, he attended the University of Miami and graduated with a BA. He attended Medical school at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña in the Dominican Republic and did his specialty training in Family Practice at the University of Florida. He is Board certified in Family Medicine and currently is medical director for UF Health Monument Landing Family Medicine and Pediatrics clinic in Jacksonville Florida. Miguel is an Episcopal priest, serves as Rector for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and is Canon for Hispanic Ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of Florida. He is married to Gigi Rosada, has three wonderful children, Miguel Jr., Natalie and Marcos, and two grandchildren.
GLADYS ALICEA ALVES
Gladys Alicea Alves is the Vice President of Operational Risk & Controls for CIT Equipment Finance in Jacksonville, FL. Alicea is of Hispanic descent and is a “first generation” college graduate. She attended Emmanuel College in Boston, MA where she studied Accountancy. She was the first accounting student at Emmanuel to receive a job offer from the international accounting firm, Ernst & Young LLP in Boston, MA prior to graduating from college. In addition to her demanding job responsibilities, Alicea volunteers her time at local non-profit organizations, including her local church where she has served in various leadership roles. Alicea has a daughter who is now attending college. “I have always had a heart for young Hispanic students. I know the significance of what a college education can do for a Hispanic student and having the support from someone who understands the emotional and financial struggles encountered by a first generation college student. It is because of this, I’m delighted to serve on the board of the Sin Limites Foundation.”
